Coronavirus 2019 and Home Exercising during this pandemic

So I thought of writing something about this Covid 19 ( short form for the coronavirus 2019), since we are now in the middle of the circuit breaker.

What is Coronavirus and Covid 19?

The Coronavirus

In short this is a type of virus that has many crowns in its shapes.  This gives it the name coronavirus, there are many types of this virus and some causes health issues and some may not.

The Covid 19 is one of those that causes health issues.  Its started around Nov 2019 in Wuhan China, which was also the first epi centre to get really seriously locked down with this illness.  Generally, the transmission of the disease is through droplets in the air when someone talks, sneezes, coughs or spits.  A person can catch it through the eyes, nose and mouth.

Covid 19 gives flu like symptoms which includes fever.  Those who has already complications in their health will be affected further by it and fatality may take place too.

Currently, there are no one time cure for this disease ( as I am writing this in May 2020) but social distancing, practicing good hygiene and covering up your mouth and nose with a surgical mask when going out are the most effective way of curbing this disease as of now.

The Circuit Breaker

While I mention in the previous post, the circuit breaker was implemented by the Singapore government to help stop the spread of the Covid 19.  It started on 7th April and is expected to end 1st June.  During this period, all services come to a shut down, office and schools are closed.  Only essential business are allowed to run . Some information can be found here: Circuit Breaker

Exercising in this Period

So how to keep fit is in this kinda semi lockdown period?  Of course stay home exercises.  HIIT, Yoga, and if you have a pole at home, that could work too.  Some of the folks with weights and gym equipment at home can also do their stints at home.  For the triathletes, I have seen many of them going for the static cycle at home, there were also folks with static swimming tubs where they can do reps in the pool.  However, majority of us will not be able to have such luxury, as such, HIIT, home based exercises and Yoga are the best to go.

During this period, I got to give up swimming and pole temporarily due to the lack of venue to do it.  All swimming pools including those in the condominiums were shut down.  As for pole, the studios has to close too.  I figured that I need to focus on the statics for this period.

YOGA

Pure sessions

Thanks to a recommendation by Huiting, my kinda Yoga buddy, she introduced the Pure Yoga sessions which comes free daily! How great can that be, and all you need to do is to just be there and do it.  Everyday, they have sessions from 7:30 am to 7pm.  Even yoga sessions by their instructors’ own Instagram pages.  So do head to the Pure Yoga Facebook page or Instragram @pureyogasingapore https://www.instagram.com/pureyogasingapore/

Stretches and Dance Class

Rock Roulette Class

Spllit class with Vivian

Attending my own Breathe Dance Co. online classes is a must to support them during this period.  I guess it will not be easy for them to survive if there were no online classes it will be very difficult for them to tide through this period.  I basically like the stretch classes, not because I am good at it but on contrary I sucked big time with stretching and hope to improve myself with the classes.  Vivian Tan is the main teacher for stretching and gosh is she really flexible.  I like her classes because they are very comprehensive and hit the main points on how to get a good stretch.

I also joined the Rock Roulette which is basically Rock dance with heels.  But I feel maybe because my area for the dance class is very small so it can get quite difficult to dance properly.  Tania is the teacher for the classes and she is really funny.  I also join all her Wake Me Up, sort of like yoga , classes on Tues, Thurs and Fri.  Mainly a morning person, I feel these Wake Me up classes are good for me to get started after I finish my run.

Funny Tik Tok

Tiktok dancing was a fun one that I took with Jennifer Pau as the teacher.  But I realise I can get quite robotic dancing, got quite a lot to work on for this one.  It was fun and I also made some Tik Tok videos too.

HIIT and Core Workouts

With the office girls

HIIT is also a must with my colleagues weekly, we meet either Thurs or Fri.  These two ladies, Yin Mun and Catherine are my office HIIT buddies and they are always very game to take my classes.  So you guessed it, I am the instructor for the class of 3 ! HIIT is a good way to sweat it out and get burn calories fast.  It keeps the heart rate going pumped up.

Being a member of Running hour, I also get to join their exclusive Running Hour HIIT sessions ran by Arthur and Elaine who are the triathlete couple.  This is also the time I get to see our buddies online too.

For Core workouts, I was introduced to Pamela Reif by Catherine and been keeping up daily with her 10 minutes tummy work out which I find really super.  In the beginning, I was aching for a few days from these tummy work outs but after that I could feel the strength coming and I could last longer. This is where I realise Youtube has a lot of resources for learning whether it be sports or language or Arts.  I guess you just have to have the heart to go for it and keep it going.

So now we are into the middle of the circuit breaker, I think I am kinda getting used to the life in “CB”.  Hopefully I don’t get bored out soon!
