Shake Out Series T100

A series of short bike, run and swim during the Hari Raya Puasa holiday week.  T100 was held in Singapore on 14 April and for that the Purpose sports company held a few free and fun workouts to get the local participants to join and gear up for the event.

The T100 is a triathlon event with 2K Swim, 80K Riding and 18K Running.  All of the 3 activities are held at the Marina Bay area making it very chic and glam.  The event is predominantly meant for the T100 elite atheletes for the championships and placing around the world.  Thus making it even more glitzy.  The expensive sign up price and the thought of riding up and down the Sheares bridge with my poor bike handling skills finally deterred me to joining the race on top of the ever increasing tier pricing.

But if you are keen to be in a very highlighted sports event in Singapore and always wanted to try what it is like to swim in the Marina Bay area, then this is the event for you.

Although I did not participate in the event proper, my swim friend Larry did and was kind of excited for him especially when he could finish the race without much training.

SHAKE IT OUT

Actually shake out activities are to prepare the athletes prior to the race day.  It is supposed to have good effect on your performance.  The Purpose Performance wear organized these free shake out activities for the T100 participants before the race day, 10 April was the ride, 11, the run and 12 the swim.

Riding in a Group

Shake out ride outside Ciclo

A small mocha with Larry

I had never rode in a group of more than five people this was the first time with such a big group which I think was easily 30 pax.  The starting point was at the Dyson factory early that morning 06:30am which I was still not so sober from the drinks with friends the night before.  But I pulled myself up and went for the ride as I thought its time I do a bit more work on the cycling.  When I reached, the briefing had almost ended and folks were going to pedal off soon.  I thought I was going to be alone in this shake out ride, turned out Larry was there also and he waited for me through.  The route started with Sentosa and over to Mt Faber, which was my first time riding up the hill.  I thought I was going to wheelie because of the steepness, but turned out I was able to pedal through well without having to get down the bike.  Was a little proud of myself as I was on clip ons.

Because of my slower speed , when I came out of Sentosa, I followed a wrong guy and went up the hill from the condominium side nearer to Kampong Bahru.  Having ran there a couple of times, it was really quite a challenge to go up the hill.  Huffing and panting when I reached the top.  I came down by the other way and saw the group doing loops there.  I decided to give it a shot doing only one loop.  I realise that the muscle group used is very different and there was indeed some challenge over there.

The ride ended at Ciclo E Caffe where the organiser Cyril, CEO of the Purpose peformance wear gave a closing and a group photo with everyone.  We all got a free drink too, Larry also cycled back to the North with me using the Green corridor for the first time.

Running by the Bay

Meeting up at the bay for a run

With the to be champ Youri Kuelen

Second day was the Marina Bay run at MBS, this time I met Larry again.  Running through the exact route for the T100 which was from Marina Bay Sands down to the barrage, the participants for the triathlon will need to do four loops of that while we only had a tasters on that day.  It was nice to run with like minded people and the best is some of the elite celeb triathletes came to join us.  I managed to cameo with Youri Keulen, one of the championship participants who eventually won the Male elite title on the race day.  But he collapsed after crossing the finishing line.  It was a good run with Raya goodies and freebies given out.  Larry was lucky, he won $50 purpose vouchers which he spent at the race expo.

Overall, I must say freebie activities are my favourite , its relaxing and there are free things to take.  Maybe I am getting old thats why.  Now that T100 is over, time to look forward to my marathon next Sunday.
