Covid 19 Longer Run Route

During the lock down, I did a couple of longer runs ( not that long for a lot of people maybe).  During the weekends, I will venture out from the neighbourhood and go to other parts of Singapore for a run.

These runs range from 14Km-21km. There are many people doing full marathons during this period.  But for me, I thought it is not necessary and staying out too long is maybe not that advisable.  My favorite route actually is to go towards town, starting from the Western part of Singapore, I will head towards the city which is the Southern part of the Island.

The Central Business district area has actually a lot to offer for running and cycling.  It gets even better now that there are not too many vehicles on the roads.

The usual route to get me to central is through Orchard Road

Through Orchard Road

There are generally 2 favorites that I like to go to get to CBD ( Central Business District).  1 is through Orchard Road, where you can pass through the Botanic Gardens and maybe check out the Gardens too.  Going through Orchard Road in the early mornings during the weekends is pretty interesting as it is usually busy and bustling, but maybe due to Coivd 19 or just simply early weekends, the streets are quiet and kinda therapeutic to run through the place.  The pedestrian walk way in Orchard Road are wider, there will be ample space for the runners and some cyclist.  It is very simple from Orchard Road, just one straight route down towards City Hall Area.

From the Sheares Bridge

Usually I will take a pit stop at Raffles Hotel as the public toilets are usually open there.  You can get a small freshen up before proceeding on.  Another of my new favorite is the Sheares Bridge where you can get a bird’s eye view of the F1 pit and City area.  Running up the bridge maybe a bit tiring but it is okay for the good view.  Coming down the bridge will bring you to Gardens by the Bay East and you can run through to Marina Barrage and Marina Bay Sands and back to Raffles Place.

For the more Hardcore ones, they can actually link up to the East Coast Park from there and continue even up to a Full Marathon distance.

Through the Commonwealth Area

Going through from the Commonwealth – Queenstown – Redhill area and down to Robertson Quay where there are connectors all the way to the Fullerton area and Bay area.  This avoids having to cross the traffic lights and many other junctions.  But it can get a bit crowded and some of the cyclists do not slow down so it can get a little dangerous.

But this stretch is relatively traffic light free especially with the Dawson Queenstown PCN, it is really quite relaxing to jog there.

Going into the Clarke Quay Area

Clarke Quay also has a connector to the Bay Area

So these are some of my recommendations for a short running route to the city from West.
