Riding to Lamp Post 1

To speak the truth I am not a good tri person.  I really cannot ride well and do not know the technicalities of riding.  But there is one thing that I enjoy about riding is the speed and freedom it gives me which running sometimes does.

Most of the time I ride in Jurong Business Park as on weekends , the place is not crowded and there are not much traffic to grapple with.  As I do not cycle with clip ons, my speed is really not that fast.  The best I can manage is 28km/hr.  I though since every one is talking about this lamp post 1 and many has taken pictures with it.  I decided to give it a try also.  22 August was the Sunday that I decided to do it.  As I do not know who I can ask to join me with my slow speed, I decided to proceed alone.

The Navigation

Using the Goggle Map as the main source of navigation. I had it mounted on my little lousy handphone holder.  This can be quite dangerous as I would need to stop from time to time to check the direction.  But since I am not going to go fast, I think it is good to just stop one side and check the directions when necessary.  The route is actually quite logical and not that difficult but because I use the walking mode for directions.  There were many shortcuts I did not take because it is not meant for walking.  But it is also good because it avoided the main road which has a lot of trucks.

The Journey

Not very good at grappling with traffic , the beginning of the ride started at PCN which is quite okay and easy for me.  But After that at Pandan Reservoir, I had to turn into Jalan Buroh, which there were trucks and although Sunday traffic is not that bad, I was still quite lost when met with the traffic.  But as I go along, I got more confident, especially into the 20km.  Most of the route there were around industrial so mainly only big trucks were seen.  Some of the roads were pretty empty, making it easy to ride.  The day was really cloudy and cooling which I thank my lucky star for that.  The last 10km of the ride was really barren, I suddenly don’t feel like I am in Singapore at all!  Just more trucks, more sand and dust.

The final few km , you can actually see the Lamp post one is no longer the 1st one on the road.  But it is prominent from far with loads of stickers.  There are other expansion plans along the road and there are a lot of trucks going up and down in loops around the area.  Along the way, you could already see different kinds of riders, some are really professional looking and some are just leisure going slow and happy , while taking pictures along the way.

Reaching the End

At the lamp post I pasted my company sticker and took a couple of shots.  I realise that maybe just a 500ML of water is not enough for hydration. Maybe the next time I would need to take note of that.  But it does feel quite happy to have reach the lamp post.  Some fo the riders also make a pit stop to the Tuas West Lamp post Hockey Stick to complete their journey to the West.
