Aeiroman Speed Triathlon 2022

Done it at the end of June, last year I did it for the super biathlon to go up Bukit Timah hill.  I did not plan to do it this year, however, Jac , a good friend of mind want to go for the speed.  So we both decided to go ahead for it.  Aeiroman is a triathlon event by the Running Guild, it has various distances and so far done virtually.

Was supposed to do on a sat end of June, but it rained heavily.  Me and Jac decided to call it off. Was still thinking how to do this tri as I had packed up my weekends with other activities the following week and it was the last week cut off to do this tri.

Hangover Tri

Then it happened , Mambo Jambo took place on the following saturday night.  Never missed this dance event and I knew I was going to do some heavy drinking.  Kept telling myself dont, but murphy’s law!  Was supposed to do the race with Jac on the Sunday and I was so tired and drunken that I told her at 2 am lets call it off.  I could sense her disappointment over the Whatsapp.  But couldnt think much as I was too drunk.  Then at 6 plus , I woke up still having a headache, I realise I cannot DNS ( Did not Start).  I texted Jac and told her, babe lets start off the bike leg from our house at 07:30am.  She was still doing some grocery shopping and she just told me , OK !

The Route

We started the bike leg first from our home location.  Originally she wanted to come over to the West to meet me and we go together but I realise it is not very wise, although traffic is light on Sunday morning but yet after 8 am, I am sure it is not that few cars on the roads.  For safety reason, we decided we will ride from each of our houses, meet at East Coast Park the Lagoon toilet and go just ride there to clock the bike.  Our very first plan was to go Sentosa to do the rest of the 2 legs, but I told her maybe we shouldnt as Sentosa is hilly and it will kill us, although the swim part might be better.

Bike

run leg

The bike was slow for me as I am not using pedals, Jac was fast she reached ECP almost same time as me but I have yet to clock the 50KM required.  She was kind enough to go that extra bit for me. We looped a bit at ECP.  Stopped at a bike shop at the bikers garden, was lucky that Jac knew the shop owner and we just dropped the bike there quickly changed for our swim leg.

Swim

By now my headache was a little better but I am still very tired.  Wobbly with the float, we barefooted to the sea infront of the bike shop.  We got a lady , tending to her children by the shoreline, to take care of our bags.  Then we jumped in ! Jac said to just keep to the breakwaters and so we did.  Been a while since I never swam with flippers it was a bit different and the sea was a little choppy.  But we were blessed by the cooling weather on that day.  Usually by 8 plus am, it is very hot and sunny in Singapore.  I was still worried as I did not bring my sunscreen.  But we were really lucky that it was breezy and cloudy.

Run

After u turning for our swim at 500m, we got up back to the same spot where we left our things and went for the run leg with our bags on! It was actually quite hilarious to see two of us running with the bags and all wet.  We headed towards the city side, the 5km u turn point was at Fort Road bridge.  Was feeling dying by then , we struggled back to the bike shop, finishing the 10KM run.  It was about 11 :20 am where we messaged Ben Swee, the organiser that we finished.  What a relief, we did not DNS and we completed the whole tri together.

Aftermath

Feeling elated, we went to the prata shop to rest and have a drink.  Was thinking of cycling back but Jac showed me Go go Van where you can transport the bicycle back in a van.  The price was good so I decided to go for it.  What a day! And I still have a hoop class the afternoon.  Till the next adventure.
