Terry Fox Run 2019

It is the ninth edition for the Terry Fox Run for cancer this year.  This meaningful event is organised by the Canadian International School and aims to bring Cancer awareness to the public and also to raise funds for research in Cancer treatments.

The 2019 Run Tee

As usual there is the 5km and 10km fun run, there is no bib no serious timing chips, just folks who want to enjoy a good Sunday morning run for the charity.  There is even no registration fees ( even if you want to gate crash the event it is also fine :P) all fees are considered as donations and small part is for the administrative fees.  While if you purchase a Terrry Fox Run tee shirt for a nominal cost of S$30, the cost will be 100% given for Cancer research purposes.

Morning before the race

Runners are also able to make their donations on the day itself and purchase the tee shirts on the spot too.  The run is really no frills and very homely styled.  Family, friends, people from all walks of life can join this run!

The is no race pack collection, just that before the race, you will need to collect the race tee shirt from 101 Thomson road #17-01 before the race.

Race Day

Start and finish

On the day itself, a last minute change in plans brought me to run together with the Tortoise runners ( my usual Monday run group).  Picked up a friend who lives near me and we set off really early than usual ( as I am fond of going to races quite late).  The sky was still dark when we reached Angsana Green ( near to the ECP Hawker Centre), but the good thing of being early is that you get the parking space and you can walk around to see what the organizers have in store for you.

This run is really no frills, they even do not have baggage drop unless very necessary.  There are booths on the spot selling the tee shirts and some gifts made by charity.  The stage is a small one mainly for the warm up session and presentation of the cheque for the donation.  There were also portable toilets or you can go to the toilets in the Hawker Centre.

Portable toilets

Weather was very humid and since we started at 7:30 am the sun is almost up, the this did not stop the folks from DNS( did not start) despite there is no race timing.  Start and finish line seemed to be the same one yearly too, 10 K route starts from the Angsana Green, pass the lagoon, towards the central and U turn back at Fort Road portion.  Along the way there is one water point giving out mineral water bottles ( not in cups) and water is the only thing provided along the way.

There were not many photographers only saw wow2wow.com Ming Ham and the usual Running shots.  Was quite happy that there were photographers as I thought there should not be any coming to support.

Cookies for the end of race

Finishing at the Angsana Green, runners get the usual cookies ( but this time it is sponsored by Marina Bay Sands) , Banana and water.  The Milo truck was also spotted!  It is always a great energy drink after a run.  I completed at about 51 minutes plus based on my own watch.  Maybe its the heat, my whole Terry Fox shirt ( since 2013) was drenched with sweat.  Well it  was a meaningful day , kind of like to spend my Sundays this way, a good run and just relax the whole day.  Till next year Terry Fox!
