Sunway Iskandar Night Half Marathon

The race is in Sunway Iskandar side of Johor Bahru.  It is nearer to the 2nd Link from Tuas side.  Race took place over the weekend of Deepavali, which got me a bit reluctant to go as it meant a long weekend and traffic can get bad.

However, I was quite happy that it did not take me longer than 1 ½ hour to reach my destination.   From West side of Singapore to Sunway Iskandar is actually very near.

I chose an AirBnB near to Legoland, as there were no available accommodation choices at the Citrine Hub which is the race start.  The price was good and I get the whole apartment to myself.  There are many condominiums sprouting up around the area.  They are all well facilitated, in fact the one that I am staying in had a nice big pool and large gym.  There were also functions rooms.

The Race Pack Collection was at the Events gallery of the Sunway Iskandar.  It was simple but bibs for the ladies veteran was printed with the wrong gender.  Race pack was simple, there was no bag etc, and event tee was provided too.  Design is the same but the colours were used to differentiate the distances.  Registration can be done on the JOM app, which was fast and easy and also you can choose not to have the finishers’ tee.  Registration cost is about 30 Singapore dollars.  It was really cheap although there were not many perks like Thai races, it was still pretty good price.

Race Pack

Simple bag drop

The race starts at 8 pm.  Its like a lazing time for me.  But still manageable as estimate to finish about 10 plus.  The route was good almost no cars but many points are dark as the place is still pretty much under construction and many areas are still not developed yet.  But after a brief drizzle it was really great to run in fairly cool windy weather.  Water points were ample and there were bananas at some point.

Coming back

The race start is at the Citrine hub mall itself.  It was not bad as there were some shelter.  There were many Zumba sessions for the runners before they start.  Medical and Drop bag points were also available.  Most  people drove there as there were no public transport.  Parking space was ample too.

Finishing the race

The race is predominantly carried out on the highway and only some small roads.  There were also pacers.  Ending the race back in the race village at Citrine Hub.  Runners were giving medal, refreshments and also small bread to curb your hunger.  There was some sports therapy available in the events gallery itself.  It started to get a little windy and drizzling. But luckily it did not rain.  I felt this race was overall very nice, but the staff seemed to have some communication problem, and some if the race information was not passed down.  So many of them were quite blur about what was happening.

Managed a little something

But they were friendly and overall they were very helpful to the runners.  I got lucky and came in champion for the ladies veteran HM.  The prizes were bountiful and they really reward the runners by giving up to the 10th place for each category.  Can see some of the runners feeling really happy.

Guess I will be bringing more friends for this race too next year.
