Mikkellar Bar in Singapore was opened only the recent few years. I remember when I started to get interested in craft beer drinking, I chanced upon their store at the current Bunker Bunker and then then Deck.

They are actually affiliated to the Druggist in Jalan Besar. With many taps on the wall, it does really catch the attention of the customers because craft beer scene is not the usual in Singapore. Drinking in Singapore will mean having the usual Tiger and Carlsberg at our Kopitiam ( coffee shops). The craft beer scene now is more advanced and more and more craft breweries are opening up in Singapore.

Actually there are many Mikkellar branches around the world, it is predominantly a Copenhagen brand. They also feature many of the different new craft beers around this region at the same time, some small finger foods are available for the beer drinkers.
I like their ambience whether at Bunker Bunker or the now Purvis Road beer bar. The clean no frills Scandinavian feeling of the bar and friendly staff who never grouches for beer tasters. The beer can be little costly but the taste was all worth it and they put the beer in nice little goblet glasses with the wording Mikkellar. Makes people feel like drinking wine.
And then a Running Club….

I forgot which year it was that I chanced upon information about the running club. But I do remember that the Mikkellar Running Club too part in the Standard Chartered Marathon 2016 because was there doing the 10KM guiding the Running Hour members. The full information came about in FaceBook the Mikkellar Bar page. To join is easy, you need to just show up at their regular runs which happens on the first week of the month at Mikkellar bar itself. Purchase the Mikkellar Running Tee ( singlet or sleeved ) and get running! You can leave your bags at the bar.

The run route is usually somewhere around the Bugis, Rochor and Town area, usually clocking a 5km-6km. My first run with them was where they are at the current Bunker Bunker location. It was really fun, the runners in the group are all pretty fast and seasoned. They are really here to run and do some training. But a couple of sessions later, there are other runners who are there just to enjoy some running company.

The perks of running with the Mikkellar group has to be the beer and the great company. This group has more “ang mo” than other groups that I know. I think it is because of the nature of the business and its origination from Copenhagen. You can really see a cosmoplitan mix from Europe, Asia and USA. The captain, Desiree Koh, is the very friendly and helpful person. Really enjoy her company. It is also a very cosy bunch. Everyone catching up with each other on what happened during the month.
Join Us
Every runner will get a small half pint of beer from the bartender’s selection. Most of the time runners will order a bit more and even food before calling it a day. Do join them if you really love beer and and also running!
