Freedom Yoga Block Party

Held on 20 July 2019, this event has been ongoing for 3 years since the opening of Freedom, to celebrate their anniversary yearly.

Freedom Yoga

There are many yoga studios in Singapore and also private practitioners.  Freedom has its own style and the crowd tends to be more fun and young.  I started going Freedom last year as they had the handstand 101 class which I wanted to improve my inversions.  At the same time, the regular Yoga Hour was something that I enjoyed just to take a break from the running and other activities.  Yoga makes your body feel relaxed and stretched out from the running.  Another reason for joining them is because they have branches near to my work place and home.

Block Party

The block party is an event that everyone can join for Free!  2 hours of Yoga sessions (signature classes from Freedom Yoga) and after which, participants get to get a goodie bag filled with many good stuff like discount to yoga wear, a packet of healthy choco bites, Hair conditioner sample and even a bottle of sunscreen.

Goodie Bag

The yoga session is held out in the open on the tarmac road right in front of the Freedom Yoga studio.  This road is blocked and close in the evenings so that pedestrians can walk around freely and safely without having to worry about the traffic.

Me and Huiting again in Yoga

I got Huiting , my Yoggie buddy to join me again this time.  We sign up through email.  the registration process was smooth.  When we arrive Lor Liput( place of the yoga session) we just needed to sign in at the registration counter, given our wrist tags to indicate that we are joining both sessions, and we place our mats to prepare ourselves for the action.

Part One: Yoga Blaze

Waiting for the session to start

They did not call it a blaze for fun.  First time doing the Yoga HIIT.  I must say I was shagged out.  I literally laid on the ground like a dead man after first session.  I do not know why but maybe I was just too tired from the running the swimming in the morning.  So it was a combination of yoga with classic HIIT stuff like mountain climber, alternated push ups.  A lot of arm and core involved but it really makes you feel good and pumped up.  The first session was very cardio.  Many of the participants just stopped half way to take a breath especially on the repetitive move portion.  So it was really not your usual yoga where you sit down the try your best to achieve a pose.

It always feels good after cardio workout.  So we felt kinda soft and floaty after the first session.  While we were sitting down and waiting for the next session.  The Emcee introduced some of the Freedom Yoga teachers and also promoted their collaboration with  Mutts & Mittens and Uncle khoe’s k9 both Pet Shelter to raise awareness of caring for animals and adoption for Pets.

Part Two: Yoga Flow

still at the mats at 1900hrs

Second session started from 7pm onwards.  It was conducted by the instructor, Princess, she began the session by sharing why her name was called Princess.  It was merely because she is a Christian and God is the King, so his children are Prince and Princess.  Since she is a lady, so her parents name her Princess.

The session started with some yoga stories from Princess , how she went to Indonesia alone to pursue dance and also how we should let go and be free.

The yoga flow is the same, there was relaxation and dance elements involved, which to many, will find it kind of strange and unusual.  But still it achieved the relaxation purpose and fun.  We did enjoy ourselves although it was a little funny dancing in the middle of the street.

The End

Happy with our goodie bags

Ending with a Churvasana, Huiting reminded me to rush up to Freedom yoga studio to get our goodie bag fast! The studio turned into a Pet adoption area with dogs roaming around the area.  We took our lovely goodie bags, shots of vege and fruits juice was dished out to us.  There were also healthy bites for all.  Indeed when we came down there were a lot of people queuing for the goodie bag.  Good thing we went up early.

Overall, we had a good experience and I hope to attend more of such events again.
