Aerial Hoop Class in Sentosa

Every year June is the health and wellness festival in Singapore.  There are many activities and events during this period as it also coincide with the school holidays in Singapore.

With the covid restrictions all lifted now, every one is just eager to go out there and have fun.  Zentosa, the health and wellness event in Sentosa,  had been more subtle.  But this year they organised it again with more activities and discounts around the islands F&B and accommodations.

I originally wanted to join quite a bit of activities especially the back bend class, but end up only signing one Aerial Hoop course because I felt that doing the Aerial Hoop in the outdoors will be fun and quite instagrammable.

Hot Lunch time slot

pulling in some inversions

The one hour class is from 11:30-12:30.  Very hot since Singapore is now in the hot season.  But still five people turned up including me.  The instructor’s name is Carmen, but I did not get a chance to ask her which studio she is teaching.  We started with some stretching to get us ready, it’s been a while since I did aerial hoop so kinda missed it.

Carmen taught us some simple moves like mermaid, man on the moon.  This was weaved into a simple choreo for us to try out.  It was quite fun, we had a guy joining us and he was very sporting.

It was not easy to do the hoop in the sand and also under the heat.  Carmen would tell us to hide under coconut tree shade while she demonstrated for us.

Go Wild

I started to try out some inversions which I missed and also did the small choreo.  Some of them were not that good at getting the tricks but its just one lesson, so you cannot expect too much.  I felt that for hoop, there is a lot strain for the shoulders and wrist too.  I did get a bit sore after the session.

We ended the session with a group photo and too much sand on our feet and face.  Would love to try it again one day!
