Held on the 2nd Nov this year, usually in Sep. This time the race is a bit later than usual but being the SG60 race, there were more discount given up to 60% off on the 6th of the month prior to the race. I invited my Tortoise running club friends and Richard to do this simple yet not so simple road 10km run.
The 10 km races in Singapore now starts early at 6 am, this race was at the Marina Promontory. Actually, I was pretty nervous about this 10km short run because I was ready to give it all out again and I really hope to be able to do it below 50min. Sketchers run was a little disappointing dropping from the 45min last year to 48 min. I think I after all the whacking to my body for Ironman, the piriformis is getting really bad. But nevertheless I am giving it a shot this time.

There was no race pack collection and signing the race only cost $24 sing dollars for me which is really a deal judging that the Standard Chartered Marathon 10Km now cost $80 for late birds. You can opt for the shirt and lanyard or not at all.

RACE
I met Richard and the Tort group inclusive or Kevin, Sally and Fowler at the start line , since I wanted to try for some good timing , I opted for Pen A. I guess the route was squeezy so they make the different waves to ensure that there were no overcrowding. The route for the ten was simple all the way from the promontory through Marina Bay sands, cross over the bridge from Barrage and U turn at the fitness park. This time the timing was pretty accurate and since I changed my watch GPS away from the ultra track, I managed to get a accurate timing. Actually, I was huffing and puffing at the U turn point and the uncomfy level was very unbearable at 7 k but I keep telling myself just another 14 min and it be over.

I saw Richard after he U turned but did not managed to see Kevin at all. Since there were water points around I did not bother to prepare my own hydration. Was so glad when I was at Marina bay sands and saw the Promontory ending in front. Still with my last bits of energy, I charged through the finish line after 2 guys in front.

This race is pretty funny, the 10 k were full of serious runners while anything after including the walks were all families and chill parties, the later morning felt very different from the earlier morning as I went back again at 09:30 am for my boat ride by the bay.
Family Affair

After catching up with Sally and Fowler as they came in about fifty plus minutes. We all went to breakfast. Right after the race I felt really high and was stretching with Richard at the event place. There were as usual many tents with kids friendly activities. We all got our free old chang kee curry puffs and fried stuff before they went out later part of the morning. After a brief breakfast at Lau Pat Sat, I bade my friends good bye and went for a bath at the office before heading back to the boat ride.

There were already many families there taking part in the walk and the carnival. Seriously this carnival has so many goodies and I thank god I brought a plastic bag with me to collect them. From Potato chips, to laundry washing detergent. I head over to the Red dot area to board my board with the Marina Sailing team. I didn’t know that wind sailing can be quite tough as sometimes the boat doesn’t move as everything depends on the wind! It was really quite an enjoyable morning and I be back again provided the race cost is still $24.
