Twin City Marathon 2017

Having already done this marathon last year, this is just a brief update for this year’s edition.  Basically, the route has been improved to a relaxing and easier route.  There were less turnings and funny turns.  The water points were well replenished and there are also banana stations and sponge stations around.  In terms of slopes, there were not many steep ones and all were easy.  The race starts at 4 am as usual, which means it is still pretty dark at at the race start, most of the routes are brightly lit and visibility is not a problem.  Just make sure if you need to go into some dark corners for toilet, be very careful and alert of the drains as some are not covered.

Still at the D ‘pulze plaza this time, due to more participants, they have it at the lobby.  The tee shirts were nice simple and fitting.  Not too flashy and overkill like some shirts.  There was also some vouchers for purchase of sports items and drinks.

This year the signs are clearer and more understandable.  The Marshalls are also placed at the less obvious turns to make sure that no one is lost in the process.  But some how I feel 4 am is a bit too early for the race as it is still dark.  Although not as bad as compared to the trails, it is still quite tiring to run at that hour.  On the whole there were not much elevation and the roads are well paved so no pot holes etc.  The participants have also increased over the years.  Competition can get really tough if you are going for a podium timing.  But the good thing is , it has yet to attract any Kenyans 😛  The water points are well equipped and volunteers are very friendly to help you out.  There were also cold sponges, banana at some stations.  Almost all stations were equipped with Isotonic drinks.

Finishers get the Tee shirt, medal and also usual hydration and banana.  What I like about the race is the breakfast that is provided.  Bee Hoon Goreng and Roti Channai, with Milo etc.  It is really a deal! There were also some massage but you need to register.  There were also shelters for participants to rest and recuperate.

Overall, I will say this race is worth going for a good relaxation, it is also very easily reachable as compared to other destinations.
