POSB 10 KM Run for Kids

The last time I ran back in Singapore is the 2 XU 21 km.  That could be a good half a year ago.  This time round the distance is shorter, but having yet to recover from the abuse I did to my body.  I wonder if I can still maintain the timing that I wanted.  I was running with the #todayIrunslow tortise club.  But to speak the truth none of them are slow.

Thinking that the starting time is at 7 am, I happily got the Uber Pool which got me to the start point which to my horror , but the starting time had been 6:30 am instead. In my very shocked and messy state , I went quickly drop the bag and messily tied up my hair and made my way to the starting pen which of course has already flagged off.  Long time since I am in this kind of shabby and funny state.  The worse was I forgot my calf sleeves! This could mark another relapse of the rupture.  I got to be careful, so running in a slower pace, I though to myself, just go for it, to finish the race with the tortoise friends.  But it was just a motivation as I knew they were all lightning fast.

Going from the back all the way to the front is always challenging for anyone, the route itself is narrow and there were many participants who were there for a walk rather than running,  all clad in their blue and emepror yellow official running tee.  I kinda stood out with the bright lime green tortoise tee shirt with the words ” Today I run slow” behind.  Really feel very challenged.

The Route

It was from the Marina Promontory to the Gardens by the bay east and back to the promontory.  To speak the truth, I was more into chilling around the area to check out the bouncy castles and free Vitagens.  The five Km up and down was our usual training route on Mondays.  But maybe I have not been doing much speed, it felt really quite strenuous.

True enough my night mare came to live. Turning back my calves, I felt the strain but keep telling myself, move on, it is okay, do not panic.  Bearing the pain, I glided on.  I could feel that the heart is willing but the body is not.  It was a pain.

Charging on to the finishing, I could feel that burst to finish up.  It was the urge to make it to the end.  I endured the pain and stretch.  Moved to the end.  I think it should be 50 min flat.  I was glad I could still do it within one hour.

Kids Run

Being the last day of the school holidays, this run was more for like family and children to get together and do some exercise before the school term for the year end starts.  There were kids dash, children play corners and also free food tasting for most of the children and family to have fun and get involved.

Freebies aside, one of the reason that this race also draw many local running clubs and fast sprinters to be interested is the team relay with attractive prizes.  Singapore Shufflers had three teams altogether and new group known as swalalalala took away the second prize.

All in all the experience was fun and enjoyable, despite being late I was happy that I at least made it to the race.  It sort of also rekindled me to get back to shorter distances once a while.
